Caroline Sexton

What is your name?

Caroline Sexton

What year did you begin playing Ultimate Frisbee?

2010

How did you start playing?

Well, Nicola Moore, Mary McKee, DOD and Fada came to my school to do a TY workshop, and I loved it and kept playing! Mary and Fada still debate who taught me to throw first, I'll let the battle continue :P

Who was your first frisbee crush?

I can't remember if it was Kyle Smith or Juno, to be honest I probably saw the two of them together and decided to stay that second!

What was the best frisbee tournament you ever attended and why?

I'd say (so far!) it was EYUC 2011 in Poland. It was my first ever international tournament and we were a highly inexperienced team. We all got on well though, and who could forget our first ever score!? I'd say we were about a million-nil down against GB, when Leanne decides to throw a hammer to Caitlin for the score. It was absolutely amazing!

What was the worst frisbee tournament you ever attended and why?

Probably Huck Of the Irish in 2011. I had just turned 18 so we went out both nights of that weekend and I have no memory of anything! Not that the tournament was bad, its just a bit difficult to say it was good when I don't even remember attending! Never again!

If you were an animal that could play frisbee what animal would you like to be and why??

I'd love to be a cheetah, just cause I saw feeding time in Fota one day, and they can run fast AND catch! Not gonna get much better!

If a theme song was played every time you were announced onto the pitch, what theme song would you choose?

This is a tough one. Probably something like that song from the movie Space Jam, might throw the other team off! (not)

What was your best Ultimate Frisbee moment?

Getting into the mixed final of Windmill Windup in 2012. We all huddled up and just had this look of "what have we done!?" on our faces! We played Good Lord in the final. Let's just say they were good.

Which player did you look up to when you first began playing frisbee?

I've always looked up to Mary McKee. She was one of my first coaches, both in school and on the junior Irish team. I still look up to her, she's a quality player and an overall great person!

What player do you look up to at the moment

See above, also Aoife Blake, and my bestie Brian O' Callaghan.

Where do you see your frisbee self in 5 years time -

I see myself being 26 and just as obsessed with Frisbee as ever :)

What was the best frisbee team you ever played on and why?

Has to be Rebel Ultimate. There's no club like Rebel, where everyone has such craic and trains so hard at the same time. I've made some of my best friends in RebeI!

Do you have any other hobbies?

I used to play soccer and GAA, but I gave them up for more Frisbee time!

What was the best frisbee party you were ever at and why?

The Cork Open party is always good! The best one though was AIUC 2011 (I think) so many Frisbee people packed Gorby's to the limit and we all had the biggest laugh :)

Have you ever thought about quitting frisbee and why?

Never have, and I probably won't until I'm physically unable to move anymore :P

Why do you continue to play frisbee?

The game itself, the people, the fun and just the whole atmosphere that accompanies the sport is so unique :)

Choose your ideal frisbee player mush-up

Throws of Doc, discipline of DOD, positive attitude of Mary, aggression of Rosie, and catches of Elaine Prendiville!

An interesting fact about you that people should know

I have a habit of nutmegging James Finn at Rebel soccer events. It's totally accidental! Sorry Jim!

Which character below would you most like to be when playing frisbee?

Spiderman cause if I don't like my throw I can reel it back with my web :)

If you had to pick one person on your frisbee team to be stuck in a submarine with for 9 days who would you choose and why?

I think I'd pick Michelle Leahy, we'd just have a laugh and 9 days wouldn't be enough time for all her stories! :P

Do you have any nice saying - frisbee or just in general - you would like to share with us?

"A team is the sum of the parts and its synergy is the multiplier." - don't remember who the fuck said it but I like it :P

Do you ever wonder how different your life would be if frisbee didn't find you?

I wouldn't have most of my friends, I wouldn't have travelled half as much or far, I'd probably still be single and I'd have no cool gear to wear!
